rhubarb

Hi guys image  just in from the garden and my rhubarb is looking fabulous . Is it too late to have a picking  ?( I would make short shift of a portion of crumble. )image

Does it change its take up of nutrients making it a no go or is it just gardeners policy? image

  • image sorry Emma and Dove just found your earlier thread image  seems such a shame to just let it rot hey ho !! Will have apple crumble instead.

  • It's not just rotting - it's feeding the crown so that you get lots of lovely rhubarb instead.

Any blackberries on the hedges around your way?  Blackberry and apple crumble would be even better image

Harvest up to a  third of the stalks every few weeks till the beginning of July, then let it recover.

If you have established crowns you can cover one of them with straw/dry leaves/shredded paper and a light-proof dustbin or similar at Christmas and you'll get an early crop in February.  Don't do this more than one year in three to any one plant.

I'm about to go home and make an apple pie image
