Moving an old gooseberry bush
Hi, I have an old gooseberry bush approx 10-20 years old, it generates several pounds of fruit each year and I prune it to a goblet shape each winter. All my hard work and pain is undone by badgers stealing the fruit, I want to move the bush so I don't have to wrap chicken wire and wooden poles around it each year. One of my allotment neighbours says it is too old to be moved, so I wondered if you had any advice please. The foliage of this bush is approx 1 cubic metre. Thank you, Andrew

I would take cuttings - I find gooseberries take very well from heeled cuttings.
They also layer well from branches that touch the ground.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Thanks very much, do you know if they fruit in the first year from a cutting or layer?
Good ideas Verdun, cheers.
