Should I encourage house mice into my garden?

  • House mice tend to live in houses and other buildings.

If you have mice living in log piles or similar in your garden then they're likely to be field mice/wood mice.  They don't need encouraging, they'll just be there.  The populations usually don't get so large that they need you to take action to reduce them - and of course a good supply of them is vital to the owl and kestrel populations.

Fortunately we have now spotted Weasels in the garden, that will hopefully keep the rabbit population down. Sparrow hawks are about, Buzzards are flying in three's, a sign they are breeding well.

i don't know why people feel they should feed everything, they manage well enough in the wild, hedgehogs eat slugs, moles eat worms, rodents will clear anything, no need to put food down.

its not a good idea to encourage rats, as people have pointed out, they do hell of a lot of damage.

  • Looking forward to it - we're normally down there as soon as the schools go back but this year we couldn't get the cottage we wanted until a bit later ...... my fingers are twitching with the packing urge image

Only bikini needed Dove, the weather here is usually very good then. Having said that, it's my OH birthday today and we usually get a nice day out, not so this year, it's raining, may brighten up later. Lunch at Tintagel was planned.

  • We had our first proper holiday together at Tintagel (well we stayed at Delabole but spent lots of time at Tintagel)  it's where I saw my first ever Peregrine falcon stooping down to take a gull  image  That coastline is good in all weathers - love the surf and spray as much as the sunshine ........ well, nearly! image

Trevone is my all time favourite place, parking right on or next to the beach, lovely walk into Padstow, a natural swimming pool, (always freezing cold) a little shop. Cafe and loo, there are so many lovely places though, difficult to choose.

we didn't go out today, changed our minds, just lazed about, it's like permanent holiday here.
