I have bought these plants this year for the first time, does anybody know if I should cut the flower stalks off or leave them to die back?

Tigridia pavonia

  • I'm sure you enjoyed your tigridias, chantell.   They are stunning flowers.   I carefully remove each seedpod as it forms after flowering, and let the plant die down naturally before lifting the bulbs.

Tetley, have taken note of your mouse warning, thanks for the reminder.   I used to hang bags of crocus corms from the roof of my greenhouse, but they weren't safe even up there.   Mice love crocuses!  image

  • Thanks everybody sounds like you all have hungry mice!!

  • True about mice and crocuses! Cats bring them in sometimes and let them go, but they can find ways into our old house if it's worth their while. One year I caught 4 by setting traps on top of my crocus and tulip bulbs that were stored temporarily in the dining room (the coldest room)!
