I lived in Darwin for 13 years (until cyclone Tracy chased us out) and I mostly grew fruit trees such as mango, paw paw, lime, banana, custard Apple and lots of other tropical fruit that you would be familiar with. As for vegetables, it was difficult to have reliable crops of tomatoes etc because the heat would upset them. I did grow ginger, lemon grass and other things that you would be able to grow in pots or tubs.
