I only found it by accident about 4 years ago in a garden centre in Uxbridge and bought 2 of them. Never seen it again so I'm glad I bought it when I did. Am hoping to harvest the seed soon, or what I think are the seeds.
I guess Silverlight made her diagnosis on the basis of the leaves, Berghill. Looking at photos on Google, though the bracts/small leaves on flowering stems are often to be seen, they aren't always there, as far as I can see.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

If it is Echinops, then where are the bracts which should be just below the flower?

Gardenmaiden if you have any spare give me a shout, I collect seeds from lots of perennials in my garden sure we can find something to swap;-)
Hopefully we won't have rain during the night and they are dry enough for picking.
