New lawn from seed
Hi guys We have grown grass, purely from seed and are yet to do the first cut. Now its appearance is slightly deteriating so we are concerned. The order of are project were as follows: Soil Top soil Grass seed Plenty of watering over first month to 6 weeks, have had lots of rain and sun balance too. 2 and a half months (approx) its grown, was lovely dark gree coloring but has now got yellow tinge appearance to it. Do i need to cut it for the first time? Any help gratefully received, thanks.

I'd say you should have cut it sooner Matt
I also have a new lawn which was sown in June. It's been cut about four or five times.
It's not too late - make the first cut quite high so that you don't take too much off and then cut regularly - you can lower the height a bit after the first cut. Ideally you never take off more than a third of the height at a time.
I'm cutting about once a week or ten days now - I was cutting every five days because we had a lot of growth with the amount of rainfall here. It does depend on your own conditions re soil and climate.
Don't do anything apart from that - in spring you can feed it. It's too soon just now. Hope that's of some help
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Thank you Fairygirl.
We patched our lawn several weeks ago and it is growing well. We have trimmed it several times with shears ( it's that sort of size ) and wondered when it will be O.K. to use the mower on it ?
Fairygirl and verdun are spot on, just make sure your mower is well maintained (nice and sharp) it's best in my opinion to have a mower that collects the clippings, this helps stop the build up of thatch.
