Thanks all very pleased with it so far & have plans to extend a little more to the right as to include an established tree that i have there already .

Going to give pride of place to the Japanese painted fern as suggested by Verdun had a read uo on them & they seem to fit the bill perfectly image

    I'm all ears Verdun ...

A quick trip to the local farmyard has now seen 6 dustbin fulls of well rotted manure , then onto the local nursey some compost , soil based compost & topsoil & now it's full up , i will leave it for a week or two to settle & then begin planting ( daunted by this part being a complete novice !! )

once planted i will then add a layer of wood chips just to the underside of the coping

Having problems trying to post a picture of it full but it looks really good now image

i want it to have a woodland theme with a nice feature plant in the top that will grow & form a canopy over the plants in the lower level , i've done the easy bit now struggling , i need a plant by numbers plan from you proffesionals !! lol

Thought you would image  It'll look fabulous - Verdun has a very good eye for such things.

The great thing is that it's evergreen, so even in the winter your garden will look fabulous.

  • Hi Tiny,

Noticed that you may extend to include an existing tree. Remember that the soil level at the base of a tree should not be raised as this would endanger the tree. Wouldn't want your tree to be damaged after such a good start to your gardening life.
