Looking at the picture I see part obviously the back of the house out of the immediate line of sight so yes a Dalek with a screen made of reed, you buy it by the roll and make a frame, or a couple of large pots with say Lilac or Herbs in front just to take the eye away. nothing is impossible say I an engineer retired.
Last year our Lawn was lush green! Now it is as dead as anything. No idea why. We moved into this new house December 2010 and laid the turf on top of top soil in April/May 2011, it was growing beautifully, last year there was a little moss, which we forked out and we fed the lawn well. The soil is clay but when we took a sample to the garden centre they said it was not too bad and a few earth worms in there showed the soil was healthy... Any ideas why and what do to now!!!
Suffered with moss at the end of my South facing garden for years. Wouldn't like to think how much I spent on returfing, reseeding it. Finally, last year, I gave in and am now the proud owner of a big new bed, which I have edged with all the rockery I took out of another part of the garden and am gradually planting it up. The only good thing about the moss was it was green.
Jane-this can be a real problem with new houses as often the gardens hide a multitude of sins! It looks like you have a slope there which in itself isn't a problem but what is the aspect of the plot and what other buildings etc are around you? As you'll see from the previous posts shade and heavy compacted ground are the enemy of grass so it's important to take that into consideration. I love a bit of grass - like most people- but if the situation isn't right for it -it's a waste of time, money and energy trying to maintain it.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
i applied some 'aftercut' granules after mowing 2 weeks ago. it didnt rain for 3 days afterwards, so i watered it in manually. not sure why there are scortch marks to it, its not been particularly sunny/hot recently. maybe i am mowing it too closely? some moss is still right at the back too, by the fence where it gets no sun at all.
