What type of tree is this?

    Oh dear, it's not a very big photo. It just looks like a tree with autumn foliage, could be a flowering cherry.

    Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

    I saw the image yesterday and thought it looked like a Malus [crab apple], but too small to be sure... the trunk and shape looked like that to me at the time...
