Hi.
Being a novice gardener I would like to ask if anyone has some advice on whether or not I could use a brand new large slanted grit container to grow herbs in?

Hi there - not sure what you mean by a slanted grit container? However, most herbs like gritty soil and plenty of sun - so if you mix your compost 50/50 with grit, and place it somewhere where it will bake, then it should be fine.
