Seed compost

Can anyone advise me why the top of my pots are looking white and mouldy and will it harm my plants such as tomatoes?

I am not an expert by any means cler, maybe you could scrape off the top layer of compost and put some fresh down. I used to get that on my house plants but don't anymore. I feed and water them from underneath. Hope this has been some help.

Sorry cler didn't realise you were talking about seed compost, haven't woken up yet........On all my seed pots I always put a fine layer of grit or vermiculite/perlite......I have found by doing that I no longer have probs with moldy looking stuff and all my seeds and little plants are ok.
