No Man's Land - or Woman's :-)
I have had a few rows of paving laid in front of the conservatory and now have an empty section between it and the old path across to the shed. I am wondering what would be good to plant there. I will probably have a couple of stepping stones in line with the conservatory door and I need a bit of room to walk round the pond which is just off the left of the photo. Nothing too high but I don't want grass because the chickens will scratch it up. It's sunny during the mornings in summer other wise shade / partial shade, well-drained, slightly alkaline.

Oh yes Nut -evening scent - Hesperis Matronalis
and some Night-scented phlox, and Zaluzianskya Ovata - wonderful perfumes in the evening.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Sorted then. Hesperis for early summer, nicotiana, (I'd go for N. affinis), for late summer.

Thats the hard part with gardening so many lovely plants and flowers but which theme to choose!!
im in the same predicament at the mo after moving into a new house in sept, and a very uncared for south facing garden, with no plants just a lawn!!
Thank you kind people for your suggestions. I think I'm going to end up with quite a lot of herby/ scenty things I think. Pam, I have a sarcococca in a pot and was thinking about using it there. In fact I want them all!!! I love the idea of evening smellies.
