Slugs , some people on our allottments have real problems with them , but I don't , I do put pellets in glass jars in the beds but I think it is because I have shredded tree/bush material for paths and I don't think they like crawling over such rough items !image

I did find a puny one in my utility Sunday night but chucked it back out through the cat flap. If its been super rainy we do get the odd one thinking its Rambo and climbing up the window. Haven't noticed any on my green or dark dahlias.

My only forays into dahlias was with 'purple' leaved varieties, eaten to shreds. . . . sorry image But then I didn't have any green leaved ones image

Ive got a dahlia with deep purple/almost black leaves and the slimy wee buggers have totally destroyed the leaves.  the poor plant is now just stems and flowersimage

We have those huge big ones, they were out the other night finishing off the bird food before OH could sweep it up.

the red lettuces are intact but then I have put a few slug pellets, suitable for edibles around them.

the red leaf dahlias are better but then again, a few slug pellets.

I'm trying to introduce snail hurling as an Olympic sport. I feel it would work very well with slug tennisimage

Tetly , I am not keen on them either that is why I put mine in a glass jar

As for the hostas at home I put  horticultural grit down and it works , they don't like it !

Also by encouraging birds , I am amazed at the number snail shells I find image

Beer traps seem best to me - they die happy.  Though when I had a puppy she liked the beer too.
