Talkback: How to fit an automatic greenhouse vent opener

This is a must if you are going to use your greenhouse to the full. Fitted my vents when I built the greenhouse 10 years ago and have only just had one fail last week, even with the high cost to buy they are well worth it.

Great advice on the UPVC roof vents, if I'd not read this they would blown away, so I'm in the process of securing them a little better.

    Thanks for the advice.
  • When the greenhouse was built in May I had one fitted, but the fitter put it on. I have just ordered one more, so i'm going to have a go at fitting it when it comes. I go out early at the mo, open the manual one whilst I wet the floor. Im leaving the door open to but it's still going well into 40'sC. I'm thinking i might need to invest in some shade netting. Does anyone here use it, and could reccomend something? Also back to the autovents, should i then remove the autovent's in winter and put the manual one's back on?

Thanks and sorry for highjacking your thread.image all advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • I have bought the mechanism to fit an automatic vent, but I am thinking that I also need an opening roof window to fit it on? Can anyone give me any helpful advice please? And, If I do need am opening window, can anyone recommend somewhere to buy it from please?

    Cheers.
  • ...fitted auto openers on my new greehouse yesterday and during the heat today: 70 +_ in greenhouse the windows opened 2 to 3 inches with direct sun. They closed in the shade. My question is how do I know the correct degree of openingand how do I achieve the correct setting?
  • I can tell you how I adjusted mine:  At night when the temperature was low, I turned the adjustment so that the window was only just closed.  I found this allowed it to open to the maximum (about 8 inches) on a hot day.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • Can you help me I have bought a Gardman 6'4 polycarbonate greenhouse which has no window frames to fit a window. I didn't realise this until it was put together. How can I fit ventilation to it??
