My dahlia's this year have not flowered much, I've had them a few years, but the foliage has been very healthy and lush. Can you take cuttings from them?
Presumably you have the large tuberous border dahlia's Tricia? If so, you would normally take cuttings in the early spring when the tubers start producing stems which are a few inches long and aren't hollow as they will be now. It would be best to leave them in situ until the frost blackens the foliage, then cut off the stems to 6", lift the tubers and keep them dry and frost free until next year.
Have you been overfeeding as this can lead to lush growth with no flowers?
Thanks Paul, yes they are the large border ones. Actually I was wondering about the feeding, I put miracle gro granules in earlier in the year and I was thinking that the growth was a bit crazy and then no flowers.

I'm not sure of the NPK ratios in Miracle Gro, but diluted liquid tomato food would be better as this promotes flowers and not leaf growth.
Cheers Paul.
