Apple trees need air to get through & between the branches easily or they can get  viruses that affect the friut so I personaly wouldn't choose to grow a rose through an apple tree

If I remember correctly the recommendation was to grow a rose through an  old apple tree that was well past it's best productivity-wise, but was a beautiful feature in the garden, both visually and for wildlife.

I've found Rambling Rector to be a wonderful rose to grow through an old tree

I was not aware of that dove, so all previous posters please accept my appologies for jumping the gun.
