This is Finn McCool (Fionn mac Cumhaill), he came to us via an Irish greyhound rescue (that also handles lurches). He helped me garden in England for a few years, and now helps out around our garden here in Utah. He's great at catching mice, and keeps the pigeons away from the greens. He does have a habit of peeing on anything that grows out past the edge of the raised beds unfortunately. But as he's my dog, and I know he's up to date on shots and wormers, I just make sure everything has a really good scrub prior to consumption.
We always had cats but 7 years ago we took in a rescue dog who was badly in need of TLC and grooming. Her coat was like sheep's wool with a 3" layer of felted mat underneath which proved impenetrable so we had her shaved. She was skeletal.
3 months later she's bouncing with health.
4 years later we got her a playmate - another rescue dog who had never been outside in his 3 years of life and was frightened of anything new but soon settled in and loves having a garden and going on long runs. He's still frightened of new stuff but is a joy.
He too was underweight but not starved and is now a bouncing fit boy.
The last of our current menagerie is Pusscat who we found hiding in an outhouse one cold September 5 years ago. She too was starving after being abandoned. 5 years later she's fit and healthy despite 2 ops for breast cancers and another for neutering where they found polycystic ovaries. She's finally decided we can be trusted and comes for cuddles but does not approve of dogs so lives upstairs apart from occasional forays into the
garden when she decides to sneak out.
Both dogs "help" with gardening. Rasta hunts moles and rats and digs. Bonzo lies next to me when I'm working, often on new plants to keep them warm you understand.

Tootles, love the name of your cat. My 3 cats and two dogs are all rescued..poor things but happy now . Obelixx what a wonderful story and great pics , i dont understand why anyone could treat an animal in such a bad way . Hi Blue...another lovely dog with a fabulous name . Rosa, she is a beauty and yes, i couldnt imagine not having my 4 legged friends...always there for you, no matter what .
I have two terriers - one enjoys visiting the neighbours (she can jump/climb anything) & currently has a sore paw after a meeting with a hedgehog. The other one is an older gent who can do no wrong - unless there's a cat about & he goes in to crazed killer mode .
Runny, what Beautiful dogs .You say you have none left now? , that must be a terrible loss for you? . Molly was a stunner! .
I have been looking the past few weeks on youtube as to "how to build a chicken coop" as been wanting chickens for years and theres a large..(well large to me, part off the garden that doesnt get used), gets cut and thats that. Was going to plant loads of wild flowers etc and then have a coop with quite a large run for them. Has to be enclosed because of my Rottie. She is a gentle giant but its still taking me time (13 months to get used to our cats), she doesn't know what to do with small things, although our other dog Pepsi is brill as she reared the first two cats. I just dont think Naya was socialised when younger and its not her fault but i think an enclosed run of sum sort would enable me to have some soon without the worry. Going to try making one as ones online are soooo expensive for what they seem to give.
Hi MaisieM , apologies as my electricity just went down lol and all i can get now im back up is the same smilie....(not looking good for later) as last storm we had, i had no lecy for nearly 3 days Anyway have you any pics of your lovely dogs to show us? .
Hi all, so nice to see so many rescue animals, they can be so lovable when they find the right family after a traumatic start to their lives, all of our cats came from rescue centres. Sorry to be a bit political but have you seen the story about the Basset hounds and the laboratory, hope you are able to look at the petition, thanks.
Here's my little white princess last evening after a hard day wandering around on my heels. As some of you already know, she was rescued for us by our late daughter, so she also serves to bring our daughter to mind all the time.
She's going deaf and blind, has only bottom teeth, but she almost never barks, is totally loyal and loving to us and is so confident now, that when anyone visits, she goes up to them and puts her nose on their leg to welcome them. Such a change from when we first got her when she used to cringe at anything new. Even the Kangaroos just stop eating long enough to watch what she's doing and then go right on eating again. They know she won't chase them. Life's good!

Hi Maggie-1
Ive signed a petition against it. It's just so sad.
Thanks Tootles, no-one in their right mind wants this, so cruel!
