Cold Frames.........

Obviously, I can't comment on this from a northern hemisphere point of view, but for me, I sited mine with the door end facing north ( my sunniest end) and the unopen end on our cold south side. It's gets the full benefit of morning and afternoon sun/warmth on the long sides.  I have found this to be very successful. Even though the nights have been cold, thermometer in GH down to minus 3 sometimes, the plants seem to be managing well.  I open the door nearly every day, except for the worst days, and it works. Hope this helps jo.image

jo.    I'd best back out of this - i feel that people closer to you would be able give more specific advice. Hope my comments give a bit of basic help.  I don't have a problem with it getting too hot, even in summer. I just open it all up. image
