Hedging for shade
Hi all, youve probably had this question a million and one times but could you reccomend a suitable hedging plant that will survive under deciduous trees? Prefferably it would be evergreen, doesnt have to flower but i could cope with that lol. I was thinking about Common Laurel? Maybe hmmm...

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Laurel is fine except when you cut it back you can't use a hedge trimmer without spoiling the look of many of the leaves. It is better to cut/prune each branch individually.
A better bet might be yew, which is tough as old boots and will take any amount of cutting back/trimming. Indeed it will be better for it.
