Hello Everyone

I tried growing coliflowers this year but everyone bolted! Why does this happen?

Been told to fold the leaves over once the coli is vissable did this but they still bolted .

Any tips would be great because i will get it right for next year .

Also my broccoli did the same.

Thanks

Hi baza with all brassicas you have to firm them really well so they don't move about and earth them up, perhaps you left them too long. Make sure that they have plenty of water.

Thanks Logan I'll earth them up next time. Don't think the water issue has been a problem up here in the northeast I feel like it's rained best part of the summer he he

Hi baza, I was told to fold the leaves over as well. First time cauli grower me so I did and the slugs gnawed the top something chronic. Cut it though and it was OK so I won't be doing that again!

Growing good cauli's is tricky for even the experienced Baza.  Some tips:

    • Never let them dry out, even when seedlings
    • Plant them when they have about 5 true leaves and plant them deep, right up to the bottom leaves
    • Never let them dry out
    • Firm them in when planting using your foot
    • Never let them dry out
    • Earth them up as they grow so there is very little bare stem showing
    • Never let them dry out
    • Feed them with a high-nitrate feed like nettle tea
    • and, in case I didn't mention it, never let them dry out!
