Plum tree

We went down our allotment today and picked a load of plums off our tree, however all the leaves have gone brown Wondered if anyone has any ideas as to why this has happened

I'd be interested in finding out what the problem is too, as my plum tree has done exactly the same in the last couple weeks
it flowered a little for the first time in spring, and I thought I would get a few plums, but nothing, and in the last couple weeks all the leaves have gone completely frazzled and all new and young stems are dead 
I wondered if the farmer had sprayed something, but all other fruit trees and shrubs and flowers are completely fine, only the plum tree is affected ?
