I need to buy hedging plants 2 meter tall, 50cm-1m wide for instant hedging. Plants will be put into large containers. I live in London. Evergreen is preferred.
Can you recommend me some plant options that I should investigate?
Erm, a fence/trellis and some climbers? I'm not sure hedging of that size will do very well long term in containers. But the more experienced folk will be along soon to help I'm sure
I think some of the hedging suppliers - ( loads of them online so have a google! ) do supply this Adam, but I expect the price is hefty. I'm not sure how well they establish or thrive - I imagine you'll have to be prepared for a good bit of leaf drop if you're transplanting them into new containers. A bit of judicious pruning to lessen the stress on the plants will help as well. Anything in containers long term need a fair bit of attention especially in long hot, dry spells.
Is it purely for screening or do you want something as a deterrent? If the latter - Pyracantha or Berberis are probably the best. For an evergreen screen I'd think Privet or Eleagnus would be easiest to keep trimmed to the width you want, but I'm sure you'll get other suggestions.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

How about some of the hollies, evergreen and prickly, and doesn't need constant trimming?
Not convinced that's going to be practical or viable at all.
I'd suggest IF you've got money to spare that you go to a fancy landscape gardener who does those "exchange plant" things and ask what and how much.
Thanks, It is just to provide privacy from the neighbor whose window looks directly into my terrace.
Bamboo? I have one which is about 9ft growing in a big container for privacy. A row of them would be good - I just can't afford it!!
