I am hoping somebody could give me some suggestions on a climbing plant that would do well in partial shade and would preferable be a late summer / autumn flowering plant?
I'd say Clematis as well. Lots of varieties which will flower at this time of year and into autumn. Etoile Violette is a particular favourite of mine and is superb just now.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Perennial sweet pea. If you regularly pick the flowers, it will flower from early Summer through to the first frost.
Clematis?
The yellow clematis Tangutica answers your question. I like clematis "Betty Corning" with perfumed lilac flowers, July to September.
