what is Japanese knot weed and how do i get rid please

    It's not (bizzarely) a notifiable weed but if you ask the council they might have some advice or even someone who can come round and deal with it.  We had a patch on the roadside verge here but it seems to have been dealt with.

    Come what may you MUST get rid of it though, otherwise it will take over your whole garden and eventally, the world!

    I have heard that if you are close to farmland you do have to notify the council and there is a hefty fine for not doing so. Don't know if this is true

    No, you don't have to notify anyone - but you mustn't let it spread from your land to anyone elses, otherwise you may find you're facing a private prosecution.

    Thanks for explaining the rules on knotweed, we are infested with Russian vine which I believe is the same genus as knotweed. I am shocked that it is widely on sale without any warning of the dangers of it, it takes over trees and distorts the branches and invades borders from the other side of our fence
