Tree Identification help please

Hello - I wonder if anyone could help us we have recently taken on a garden with a beautiful yellow flowering tree. Our neighbours inform us it has only flowered twice in the last thirty years (this year and last) and thought it may be a Pride of India tree - I've tried to research this a little bit but can't be sure - could anyone help?

The tree is around forty foot high so I haven't been able to get any excellent close up shots (sorry!) see below for my best efforts.

Might be a golden rain tree.

Have a look here and compare with yours - http://datreestore.com/goratrkopa.html

I have a baby, 1m 30 high, in a pot, given me as a 6" seedling 4 years ago by a gardening friend.  Hers were a lot taller than the link info says and more the shape of yours too.

Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

  • Thanks Obelixx - I followed your link and then found a link to this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koelreuteria_paniculata It looks like you hit the nail on the head - thank you very much for your help.

Same thing then.  That's the trouble with common names isn't it?  Lots of names for one plant and sometimes more than one plant with the same name.

I have a small one growing here in the Pennines, they are pretty tough trees. There are lots in the parks and public squares in Prague, where my brother lives and those flower regularly but they are very large trees. They get cold winters but hot summers with sun, which may make a difference!

Mine hasn't flowered and is fairly slow growing here, but has pretty pinky/apricot new foliage in spring and colours up nicely in autumn. I like the leaf shape too.
