Wildlife Pond

Ok. I would empty as much water as possible into large containers by syphon. Place plants to be split, saved etc into buckets of the  water. Dig out preformed shape - old pond and move to one side (with lots of help!) Then return water to pond to a depth to keep your plants happy - if you want...

Then start digging - go as big as you can. Ponds appear to shrink in size once you put in the water and the plants!!

Look forward to seeing th pics

  • Many thanks for your advice.
  • This is our new wildlife pond. We are very pleased with the result.

Nice size. What do you intend to do to cover the top of the liner?

  • We will be tucking the liner underneath the turf round the edge.

a few nice big hostas round the edge would be FAB.

  • Love to see another pond in the making Paula. We tucked our liner under the soil at the pond edge and then laid turf from the lawn edge and over the liner. I never expected the grass to do so well on the liner but it's now down to the water in some places. I did use strips of hessian sack to wick moisture from the pond to the new turf. That's now perished but gave the grass a good start. Hoping for some frogspawn in a couple of years if the frogs stay with us.
