greenhouse bases

Hi everybody i am new on here this is my first post but i have been looking for many months.I have been looking for a greenhouse at a very good price since december last year and yesterday i dimantled the frame(glass was already out) and today i have geen looking at my new puchase it is quiet old mastic was used to seat the glass all gone very hard there is no grooves for rubber seals so i have found so single sided tape sold by elloughton greenhouses soft sponge suitable for exterior use with high impact sticky back. But my first question is because economy is important and speed is not i have saved over the months some treated 6" x 2" tanalized boards also 4" x 4" fence posts also tanalised which i want to seat the greenhouse on compacted gravel which has been down 8 years i wanted to lift the greenhouse 10" higher by use of 6" wide boards with 4" boards on top to make the 10" it will be well enginered with 4mm alloy building ties and fastened to ground anchors i have all the products at hand time to do it can anyone see any problems please.

Hi adrian, I'm not sure that I have understood this correctly do you mean to use 6x2 inch timber sitting on the gravel with 4x4 ex fence posts on top which the greenhouse will sit on and be fastened to and then the timber base will be fixed to ground anchors? If so then that sounds good to me. Two things that I would say is to make sure that the base is square, level and solid before attempting to fit the greenhouse as if it isn't the glass won't fit and it will lead to a problem, also I wouldn't secure the glass in too firmly as it needs to move rather than crack when the greenhouse flexes with heat or in high winds. My second hand greenhouse didn't have any grooves for a gasket but I bought a "u" shaped gasket which slid over where the glass sits, I do use flexible silicon on the inside where the polycarbonate roof sheets sit in the frames but that's not going to crack like glass will. Good luck with the project I hope it goes well.
