My foxgloves are coming to an end, but have loads of seed pods. is it too late to sow them? Common sense tells me, that if the plant looks like it's ready to self seed, then now is okay to facilitate this, but packets of seeds say sow April, May & June.
why is this?

Yes, sow them. They'll either flower next year or the one after. Or just let them sow themselves, much easier. Your common sense view is one I share. Fresh seed germinates, stored seed might germinate.

I wait until the seedpods are dry and beginning to open, then cut the stems and just swish them over the border where I want foxgloves to grow - they do the rest themselves - all I have to do is thin them out a bit when they've germinated

Great idea Susan. I'm often worried that if I scatter seeds, then later I won't know if they are meant to be or are weed seedlings. I might try that method too.
Foxgloves shed so many seeds the loss of a few won't be noticed
