Hakonechloa macra

I recently planted some Hakonechloa macra but they were being eaten alive. I soon realized that it was my dogs first port of call when loose in the garden so I stopped this but something (possibly cat) are still nibbling on the leaves. Does anyone have any suggestions how I can stop this other than covering them with wire mesh?

Same here Verd, doesn't seem to attract problems of any kind. Keeping it dampish isn't an issue here but if it's dried out perhaps it's become a bit susceptible to something? Is it planted in a dry spot ACre?

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Thanks for reply, was planning on putting some in pots but really wanted to have some in border with lobelia cardinalis 'queen Victoria' behind.

Soil is nice and damp, gets sun about 50% of the day. Brand new garden, gutted it last year, loads of compost mixed into soil.
