aubergines
in Fruit & veg
My aubergines are rotting off. They are in an unheated greenhouse alongside tomatoes. The tomatoes are doing great, but the aubergine fruits are not developing. I am feeding and watering as per the tomatoes. Whats going wrong?

could it be a pollination problem as the same thing happens to courgettes?
Aubergines are self-pollinating, same as the toms. It does sound like a pollination problem even if the toms aren't suffering the same problem. Try giving the newer aubergine flowers a flick with your fingers to kick start the process.
Aubergines also like a bit of humidity. A problem when you're growing them in a greenhouse with toms, for which humidity is a recipe for fungal problems.
Thanks everyone. I may have had the aubergines a bit wet so have cut down on the watering even though today is quite hot for Lancashire. On pollination, the aubergine fruits did start to develop but then rotted off. I'll go and give them a good talking to and don't know about a flick they may need a slap !! If anyone else has any ideas I will be a better aubergine grower in the future
