Blackcurrent pruning

I'm confused. According to the what to do now above. I should be pruneing my blackcurrants now, however the RHS website advises to prune when dormant in late autumn early winter. Also although I have approximately eight strongest stems I have about 15 smaller stems growing from the base. should I prune most of the smaller stems out leaving only two or three of the stronger ones to replace the original stems when mature.

Same here.   Make harvesting easy by pruning out fruited stems right to the base then go and sit in comfort on the terrace to pick the fruit.

It makes for automatic pruning of the old wood and constant renewal of fruiting vigour. This year we've had more fruit than my freezer and jam pots can handle so I've also pruned the longer remaining stems by half but I don't usually touch the remaining unfruited stems.

Use obelixx advice, easier to pick from cut stems than on the bush, Black Currants fruit on new shoots.

    Thanks,

Cut out all the old stems so see what happens next year!

Am I right in thinking black currants fruit on the previous yrs growth were as red and white currants fruit on the current yrs growth, so by pruning black currants now gives the plant time to put on new growth before the  autumn.

My bushes are only a couple of yrs old and still very small so haven't pruned the older branches this time but pruned new shoots by half. I've also cut out branches growing into the centre to allow for air circulation in the centre of the bushes.
