Hi nez - I use them around plants to deter slugs and have had some success. You have to make a fairly thick ring though. I also add it to my compost heap as they are a good source of nitrogen. As they are acidic, you could also add them to ericaceous loving plants.
I found them useless at stopping slugs and snails. I even tried buying cheap coffee and putting it unused around plants, no effect at all in stopping them. I now add mine to the compost heap.
I use them around acid loving plants. My blueberries seem to like it. Sadly, so do the slugs. It deters cats from fouling an area but needs refreshing regularly.

Yep- I add to my compost heap too........turning into great matter for next year!
I throw mine round the base of the camellias and rhododendrons. My slugs must be hardy beasts, it doesn't appear to slow them down
I toss them onto the compost heap. Used grounds are pretty much neutral after brewing, losing most of their acidity in the process.

I've used thick rings of strong coffee grinds around base of lupins and hostas and found to be very effective against slug attack
