POWDERY MILDEW

Mel MMel M Posts: 347

Taking a stroll around our allotments I noticed that every single courgette plant had powdery mildew on them, including mine!! I browsed the www and found a site with some interesting remedies. 1 dessert spoon of vinegar to a pint of water. 1 part ethanol based mouthwash to 2 parts water. 1 dessert spoon of potassium bicarbonate to a litre of water. To all of these a teaspoon of liquid soap (non detergent) helps the mixture spread. To be really effective these should be sprayed on at the first signs, before the mildew takes hold. Then there is the old stand -by Bordeaux mixture.

  • I don't worry too much about this. My courgettes always get it, but they keep on fruiting well.

  • Interesting post Mel, can you post the original link?

Courgettes have been disappointing this year because of the poor summer, but the powdery mildew certainly hasn't helped.

Mine are always like that too, nothing to worry about, they have continued to supply just the same.

Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

  • Same with marrows. Still get good marrows.
