penstemon shedding many flowers

Hi,

Have planted red Penstemon plant in pot on balcony.  It seems to shed masses of good flowers - found 20 this morning.

Is this right?

    Yes they do fall off quite regularly.

    Once the whole spike has fallen, cut it back to just below the 1st seed pod and it will send out flowering side shoots image

    Hi Mattbeer87 and all.

    Thanks for your advice about the spike.  Sorry, I'm a novice, not sure where to cut the spike to encourage flowering, whether on the little stalks or the whole big stalk. Please see pictures.
