Cobra Beans

in Fruit & veg
I have been growing Cobra beans very successfully in a large tub for the last few years - 4 plants giving me 1-2lbs a day for weeks. There is soil in the bottom, topped with new compost every year. They started very well, and early, this year, then I noticed that the leaves on one of them were becoming mottled, changing colour, then falling off. Can someone tell me what's happening - and is it likely to spread to the other plants? My family will be devastated as they've already placed their orders!

It could be that your beans have a virus. It would be a good idea to sterilise the container have a complete change of compost for next year's crop
All my runner beans including cobra have been unwilling this year to thrive - I thought it might have been the weather since my friends have had a similar problem. Went to an agricultural show on Saturday 8th Aug. and the runner bean category had no entries. Hot spring, cold summer this year?
