i have both summer and autumn fruiting canes they are in second year. There are lots of new canes and lovely green leaves but only had a few berries! There are six plants in total. Help I must be doing something wrong.

IThank you for your reply. I did prune last autumn. But there wasn't much to prune as they were new plants.

Don't prune this years growth - that's nexts years fruit

They do die back after fruiting in which case you can prune ({)

Thanks for that. I will be careful what I prune. So it's ok to cut back the one cane that has fruited?

Yes Jane, cut back that fruited cane and leave the rest.  Raspberries root close to the surface so the best thing you can do to encourage a good crop is to mulch them with well-rotted manure in the autumn, after they have had a good soaking - don't mulch if the ground is dry.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • I have both summer and autumn raspberries and like you Jane52 they are in their second year. I have to say I have a poor crop too and what little I have had, the wasps have eaten. Not sure what I can do about that, short of netting them after pollination?
