Garden plant ID

XyRoXXyRoX Posts: 3

Hello all

I'm new here and hope you can help. I had my garden landscaped a number of years ago and I'm trying to identify this plant.

It started off as a number of small bushes but has now got a bit out of control. I wouldn't mind cutting it back if possible and neaten it up a bit.

Sorry if it's an obvious plant, I just don't have green fingers!

Thanks

Scott

It's one of the conifers.  You can trim it with shears or hedge cutters to make a smooth mound or you can use secateurs to cut back the bits that are too long.  Do it now so wounds have a chance to heal before the autumn frosts or you'll be inviting pests and disease to invade the plant tissue.

A word of warning though - conifers do not grow back from brown wood so make sure any cuts are just into the green foliage.   Keep it trimmed regularly in future with a cut in late spring after frosts and anther in early August if needed.   Better a regular haircut than a complete hack.

Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Google images looks very similar to that Hostafan1!

  • Definitely a Juniper, there are a few similar cultivars.
