Poorly Walnut tree

KeenOnGreenKeenOnGreen Posts: 1,831

I planted an English Walnut tree, Juglans Regia, in Spring 2014.  In midsummer last year and this year, the leaves started to turn brown at the tips.  I don't think it's diseased, as it has otherwise flourished and grown strongly in it's 2nd year.  We are on heavy clay, and dug a sizeable planting hole when we planted it, filled in with topsoil/manure/compost.  Could this be over or under watering?

You could be right, wasn't aware of this.  There are no blotches at all on the leaves, just brown die back from the ends, so I'm still not 100% sure it is this disease.  As the planting hole was in pure clay, I think it may be acting as a sump when we (over) water.  I'll read up more about this disease, and cut back on the watering for a few weeks to see if things improve.
