What is this pond weed? Is it a friendly plant .. or not?

This submerged weed has been developing at a rapid pace in our pond over the last month or so. It is now appx six inches in diameter, growing in a loose ball shape.  Can anyone identify it for me and let me know whether it is friendly or invasive?  If I need to get rid of it, can I simply remove it?  It would be great to know if it is a friendly weed, too.  Many thanks indeed!

It could be ivy leaved duckweed. Apparently it is less invasive than common duckweed.

I recognize that and will try and remember (or look up) what it is if nobody else IDs it.

    Not a duckweed I don't think

    Nut, is it Willow Moss?

I don't recognize the name Dove but it may be that I never had a name, just the plant.

    I'll check out willow moss.

  • Hi Nutcutlet and Dovefromabove!  I can confirm that this weed is called Ivy-leaved Duckweed.  It's not as invasive as ordinary duckweed and apparently grows fairly slowly -- comparatively.  Thank you so much for your time and kind help!

That's the one, I haven't got any now and probably never gave it a name when I had.
