Yet another plant ID

Not sure if this is a garden plant or a weed. It appeared, seemingly out of nowhere. I potted it up in case it was something worthwhile, but now I'm starting to get twitchy

    the only flower spike which starts opening at the top then works down.

    I think it's the only one.

    I agree - if the flower spike is purple.  If it open creamy white buttons then it's definitely a weed.  No good at names!
