Why remove the fruit, unless to your mouth? And why prune? You do not say the variety or whether summer or autumn fruiting.

Maybe it should have been cut back when you planted it.
  • Thank you. I think it was for autumn fruiting. My wife bought it with several others from a very good local nursery/garden centre so the quality of everything is first rate. When we bought it it was two bare brown sticks with a small green shoot at the base of one. since then it has been very happy

Ah, it sounds like Autumn fruiting. The sticks should have been cut down, but so long as you are treating it well, enjoy the fruit. Cut the fruited stems away in February next year.
  • Many thanks. It's in the diary

...and then add loads of bonfire ash and as much leaf mould as you can.  I've done this for the last two years to the Autumn Bliss I inherited and the yield has greatly improved.  It's great to be picking raspberries in October when they're so expensive in the shops!

  • Thank you for the advice. It's true, there's a huge delight in eating anything home grown. It tastes so much better. However, crop planning is proving a little haphazard. Better next year we hope.
