Plants in pots and mares tail
My local garden centre is infested with mares tail. Do you think there is any risk in buying plants in pots from there? My garden (touch wood) is mares tail free and from everything I've read on here I'd like to keep it that way so would hate to introduce it.

Was afraid that would be the answer Lyn
I do feel sorry for them - it's a lovely garden centre and the problem seems to have arrived quite suddenly. I shall have to go elsewhere though.
Wonder if we have been going to the same garden centre? I noticed a patch of the horrid weed last time I was there and it put me off immediately. Its not exactly good window dressing.
The one I'm talking about is in Essex very close to the Suffolk border Ceres
Ooooh. It could be the same one. Its so near the border it could be in either county.
I'll send you a message.
Oh, I can't, it says you don't accept private messages. I'm not going to mention the name on a public forum
Very wise. The libel laws are there to trap the unwary.
Having spent years battling the dreaded mares tail on my allotment and now in my new garden, I can only beg you not to risk it. If you are clear of the stuff do all you can not to acquire it.
I'm certainly not going to risk it Chand - the horror stories on here have made me nearly as scared of mares tail as I am of spiders! Apparently it's poisonous for horses too and my daughter has lots of those so it would be awful if I got MT then accidentally transferred it to their paddocks via my wellies or something.
