Hi I need advice please, should I plant this ilex cloud tree directly into the soil in this location, as I am concerned its growth is hampered and it would grow better if planted directly into the earth,I am also worried the winter frosts will harm it if in a pot???

I live in west midlands worcester the cloud tree is ilex crenata, last year we repotted into a larger pot but it looked a little poorly this spring but only the bottom two clouds were affected...frost? under watering...I am not sure, we fed it and it now looks fine, I just dont want to lose it this winter and was wondering if it would feel happier planted direct into the ground?
