Potentilla Red Ace - Pot Size?

My MIL has just bought me 2 Potentilla Red Ace plants. I will be planting them in containers. What size (circumference/depth) would you suggest? I'd also like to under plant them with low growing flowers, ideally yellow, does anyone have suggestions on that front?

  • I've quite a bit of that in my "hot border".    It grows quite big though.   About a metre high and wide, so you'll need a big pot.

Something like rudbeckia would be quite nice with it.   I like the ones that are quite dark with brown centres.  eg  Black Eyed Susan

  • Thanks NorthernLass.

I ended up using 2 matching pots that we already had, about 14" or so in diameter. Bought some yellow violas to go under them. Hopefully they'll look nice.

the smallest possible container. That way it'll die more quickly. A horrible little plant.

  • Really? I've only seen the picture that came with it. What makes you say that?
  • Thanks Verdun. Those osteospermums are exactly the colour I had in mind. We'll be having lots of red and yellow combos in the new garden so that suggestion will definitely come in handy! (Red & yellow are my OH's football colours so having them in the garden keeps him happy).
