""As mentioned on another thread I plan this year to grow some up rustic poles with an inverted hanging basket fixed to the top in the hope it will create a "tree" effect with flowers and leaves cascading from the top. Might be a disaster but fancied giving it a try...""
That's genius! Hope it works and I look forward to seeing the pics!
What happened to the sweet pea know how thread? I can't find it.
David K....?
In my very limited experience of sweet peas those look fine but they will need more support further up. I did what Dove suggested and with canes like yours I wound string round the whole thing wrapping round the sticks as I went. I was a complete novice then and had them in a large pot. They worked a treat. Keep feeding them.
I agree Emma - they look fine, but will need some strings going horizontally between the canes to help them scramble up. When they start flowering remember to keep picking them - the more you pick, the more flowers you will get. As soon as they set seed (which look like little pea pods) then the plant will stop producing flowers, but if you pick them, they will flower all summer.
I'll look for David's thread now, and see if I can bump it up

Thank you - when you say feed do you mean an all purpose plant food ?

I tend to feed everything with tomato food as it encourages flowering but don't take my word for that.
