Suggestions needed

I'm in the process of digging out a grove/clump of bamboo and need something to replace it which will give height and movement in the garden without turning into a thug.  The bamboo is well over 12' high but very open i.e. lets wind and light through.

Suggestions for something to replace it would be appreciated.
