Plant ID please

We moved into our house a year ago and after much hard work we've just about got it right. My wife planted some string beans in late spring and this has come up in the middle. The leaves are big, the  biggest is at least 12 inches and in the middle is a spiked ball bigger than a golf ball. I've searched a lot of websites without any luck
