Looking back at the photo I've realised that it being slightly out of focus (always is when I use my tablet) has made it look like there are little grass sprouts coming up. There aren't. This is after having forked over and mixed the last lot of topsoil and sand. I actually need to tread it down and add (I reckon) about another tonne.... something I don't find even remotely daunting any more, having done 6 already. Turf in about a month I think - and I will post a photo (and do a dance, and yell from the rooftops etc etc).
'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.'
I didn't lay the turf myself - too nervous about messing it up - but laboured for the chap who did and he talked me through it. I would feel more confident to do it myself next time... except there will not be a next time.
It was a glorious day yesterday, and then conveniently rained heavily in the evening, so it's looking lovely and green today.
Thanks everyone for your help and encouragement.

Ha ha - I do feel like partying! Just the small matter of all the borders, veg beds, pond, pots etc to get on with now - but I intend to be uncharacteristically sociable over the summer

Looking forward to the photos LG ...of the lawn as well as the dancing
The prep is always worthwhile even if it feels never ending. It will be splendid by the summer
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
