There is a pest called viburnum leaf beetle which has recently arrived from the continent, I think.
The larvae hatch in May and start eating leaves. Spray in May with a chemical bug killer to kill larvae while young and cut off and burn affected leaves.Adult beetles are harder to kill. Hope this helps.
